Maxwell Duley

Maxwell Duley was born in Wollongong in 1937 and grew up in Dapto. He talks of his life as a young boy playing marbles in the street and describes the popular pastime of ‘bird-nesting’. Max had an instinct for attracting trouble and recalls certain escapades during his time delivering telegrams and apprenticing as a butcher.

There are also humorous tales of Saturday night movies, fruit fights on the train, and particular strategies for dealing with local dogs during meat deliveries.
