Maxwell Duley was born in 1937 in Wollongong and grew up in Dapto. In this interview Max tells of his life as a young boy playing marbles in the street and the popular past time of ‘bird-nesting’. Max had an instinct for attracting trouble and recalls certain escapades during his time delivering telegrams and apprenticing as a butcher.
There are also humorous tales of Saturday night movies, fruit fights on the train and particular strategies for dealing with local dogs during meat deliveries.
