Neale Armstrong was born in 1936 in Wollongong and grew up in Avondale on his family’s dairy farm. In this interview Neale remembers life on the farm and at Avondale Public School and the many antics he and his school mates got up to.
For his higher education, Neale was sent boarding at Hurlstone Agricultural High School and recalls his time there and the clear distinction between the boarders (bedbugs) and ‘day-goes’. He also clearly remembers his 21st Birthday party at the Avondale Community Hall and the milk carrier who was the eyes and ears of the local farming community.
