Dr Aunty Joyce Donovan is a Wodi Wodi and Dharawal Elder with strong links to the Cobrogal and Dharug nations and is a respected cultural knowledge holder and cultural mentor. Aunty Joyce shares about her life and her involvement with the Aboriginal Medical Service, training as a nurse, advocacy on the importance of education, her action against domestic violence and sexual abuse, and her involvement with grief and healing within community. In 2008 Aunty Joyce was recognised as an Australian of the Year, NSW Local Hero, for her work on child abuse and her contribution to the Aboriginal health. Aunty Joyce was presented with the Honorary Doctorate by UOW in 2023.Aunty Joyce also shares a welcome to country in Wodi Wodi language with English translation.
