Neale Armstrong

Neale Armstrong was born in Wollongong in 1936 and grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Avondale. Neale reminisces about life on the farm and at Avondale Public School, including many of the antics he and his school mates got up to.

Neale boarded at Hurlstone Agricultural High School and recalls his time there, noting the clear distinction between the boarders (bedbugs) and ‘day-goes’. He harks back to his 21st Birthday party at the Avondale Community Hall and remembers the milk carrier who was the eyes and ears of the local farming community.
