Neil & Tera Wheway

Tera (nee Hendriksen) Wheway was born in 1943 and emigrated to Australia from Holland with her family in 1950. They settled in Dapto and Tera remembers the early years of adjusting to her new home, learning English, and fitting in at school. She also recalls enjoying sport such as vigoro and hockey.

Neil Wheway moved to Australia from England as a teenager in 1960. He lived with his family in Albion Park and worked at Wongawilli. Neil recounts how he met Tera when she worked at Albion Park Library and mentions his Vespa scooter and Morris 1000 car.

Part One :

Neil and Tera reminisce about Dapto in the 1950s and 1960s, their dating days, and their early married life.

Part Two :

Tera speaks of life in Station Street, recalling a Greek tailor, street cricket, and helping with the milk deliveries at the factory. She also has happy memories of her time in the Dapto Brownies and Guides and recounts a particularly notable driving lesson in Neil’s car.
