Joan and Ron Cairns met and married in Wollongong and built a house in Figtree where they lived with their three daughters. During his work life, Ron witnessed the changes in the mechanisation of coal mining. He is now involved in the Mining Heritage Group. Joan and Ron have been married for over 60 years.
