Nellie (Tibb) Hynd

Tibb’s mother was part of the Gill family from Helensburgh and she recalls the family’s shop and house there. Tibb grew up as part of the Wells family who had a shop in lower Crown St Wollongong in 1910s and 1920s. She remembers the retail and school community and local industries. In the 1930s, Tibb worked as a nurse in Wollongong Hospital with her friend Hilda (Tess) Tuxworth (nee Phegan)and remembers infectious diseases and treatments. In 1935 she married John Hynd. The interview was conducted by Hilda (Tess) Tuxworth in 1984 on cassette tape and the sound quality is imperfect.
