The Phoenix Theatre is a community theatre started in 2007, dedicated to showcasing diverse performances and fostering local talent in growing their craft. Steen is the artistic director and chairperson, purchasing the space from council for $1 and subsequently revitalising it after its closure seven years prior. He worked professionally in the industry until 2002 when he moved back to Wollongong after working and training in theatre throughout Europe.
