Elsie Baird nee Looney was born in 1923 in Wollongong and grew up and lived in Coniston all her life. Elsie recalls how the economic depression of the 1920s affected people in the Illawarra and how her father, who owned the produce store A C Looney’s Produce, helped those out of work.
