Denise Lawler (nee Abbott) was born in 1944 and moved to Dapto from the Northern Suburbs of the Illawarra at the age of eleven. Her family built a home in Unara Road and Denise has happy memories of growing up there, dodging plover birds and riding the tractor to the milk factory in Station Street.
Denise was active in the Catholic Youth Organisation in Dapto where she met her husband and talks about the separatism of Catholics and non-Catholics of the time. She also recalls many outings, including to the Marshall Mount dances and the Bernadero and Pioneer Hall dances in Wollongong.
