The centre was built by Wollongong City Council in 1960 and refurbished in 2017. It provides office accommodation to several community organisations and regular activities and services for the local community. In 2022 these included: Joblife Employment, Elderly Italian Women Social Group, Free Community Lunches, CRAFT Group, Italian Pension, ISLHD Exercise Class, Men’s Group, Wollongong Family Church, Revival Pentacostal Church, Orange Sky Laundry and the Vietnamese Association.
In 2023 Wollongong Council plans to demolish the existing centre to make way for an exciting new Community Centre and Library on the corner of King and Greene Streets in Warrawong. You can read more and see plans here.
In early 2023 Maxyne Graham, retired co-ordinator of the centre, interviewed people who have been part of the activities and services over the years. You can hear their memories and reflections.
